Every journey through the exiles' world of Wraeclast is a tale of maturation, and every great tale contains a climactic test. For many players of Path of Exile 2, that test is Lachlann of Endless Lament. He is a very different creature from the mindless slashing through packs of monsters; he is a riddle that must be solved with a particular answer. Failing to go up to him unprepared is a guaranteed method to lose your health pool and your PoE 2 Currency store due to all the repairs that items will require.

Before you ever step foot in the arena, your defense layers must be personally inspected. Lachlann causes mostly physical damage with some chaos damage from the spectral spirits. You want to have a very good physical damage reduction, but at this point it is not always readily available. Instead, prioritize your life pool to the maximum. If your character is a spellcast or ranger-type, at least 1,000 life is an acceptable standard. For melee characters that will be taking the brunt, go higher.

Your flasks are your lifeline in this encounter. Don't underestimate them. A Staunching Flask to remove Corrupted Blood (which he can inflict) is non-negotiable. A Basalt Flask provides a massive boost to your physical damage reduction for its duration—time its use for when he begins his most aggressive melee combos. Furthermore, an Amethyst Flask can cap your chaos resistance temporarily, making those drifting spirits far less threatening. In the offensive, mobility is your biggest asset.

The arena for Lachlann is spacious, and you will be moving through it at all times. Make certain your move skill, whichever it is among Shield Charge, Flame Dash, or Leap Slam, is properly leveled and chained for lesser cost or higher speed. A damage skill that is your go-to should be something that you can do with mobility. Damage-over-Time skills, for example, Poison or Bleed, are great, for you can use those, then worry about evading entirely.

The real preparation, however, happens during the fight itself. The first attempt should be a scouting run. Go in with the sole intention of learning his animations without the pressure of winning. Watch how he telegraphs his three-swing combo, learn the rhythm of his ground slams, and observe the pattern of the expanding aoes during his channeled phase. Each death is a lesson, as long as you understand what killed you. Throwing your body at him repeatedly without adapting is what drains your Currency and your morale.

Defeating Lachlann is a rite of passage. It requires that you respect the mechanics of the game and epitomizes your character to levels further than clearing maps requires. The knowledge that is gained in his arena—how to utilize layered defense, smart flask usage, and moveable DPS—carries with it to the whole endgame. Spend time learning this fight, and you are not simply defeating a single boss; you're becoming a stronger player, and that is the greatest cheap poe 2 currency there is.
