Why has the order of my Instagram following list changed?

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This morning, I logged into my account and saw that completely random accounts had appeared at the top of my regular following list. The list used to look completely different.

Instagram shouldn't be viewed as a simple chronological list. The "Following" order can depend on various signals and interactions, so recently added accounts aren't necessarily at the top. Users also report situations where the usual order suddenly changes, and recently added accounts end up scattered throughout the list.
